Xanthohumol Pro Liposomal is a high-strength formulation providing 25 mg of xanthohumol per capsule, derived from a standardized extract of Humulus lupulus L. (hop flower). The formulation combines xanthohumol with phospholipids from organic sunflower lecithin and chitosan as part of our LongLifeLipoTech® Pro-Liposomal formulation technology.

Xanthohumol

Xanthohumol is a naturally occurring prenylated chalcone found predominantly in the female inflorescences of Humulus lupulus L., commonly known as hops. Hops contain a complex mixture of phytochemicals, including prenylated flavonoids, bitter acids, polyphenols and volatile compounds. Among these constituents, xanthohumol has attracted particular scientific interest because of its distinctive chemical structure and biochemical properties.

Chemically, xanthohumol belongs to the chalcone subclass of flavonoids. Its molecular structure contains an open-chain flavonoid backbone together with a prenyl group, a structural characteristic that distinguishes it from many more commonly occurring dietary flavonoids.

Xanthohumol occurs naturally only in relatively small quantities in hops. For this reason, standardized extracts can be used to provide a precisely defined amount of xanthohumol. The extract used in Xanthohumol Pro Liposomal is standardized to 20% xanthohumol, with 125 mg of standardized extract providing 25 mg of xanthohumol in each capsule.

A molecule of considerable scientific interest

Xanthohumol has become the subject of extensive experimental research in molecular biology and pharmacology. Laboratory studies have investigated its interactions with a wide variety of intracellular proteins and signalling systems, including Keap1/Nrf2, AMPK, NF-κB, NLRP3, STAT3 and PI3K/Akt/mTOR.

These signalling systems are fundamental components of cellular biology and regulate numerous biochemical processes. Research involving xanthohumol continues to investigate the molecular interactions underlying these observations.

Importantly, findings concerning these molecular pathways derive predominantly from experimental and preclinical research. References to these pathways describe areas of scientific investigation and should not be interpreted as demonstrating corresponding health or therapeutic effects from consuming xanthohumol.

Why Pro-Liposomal?

Xanthohumol is a lipophilic natural compound with limited water solubility. To address its formulation characteristics, we have incorporated xanthohumol into our Pro-Liposomal technology platform.

Phospholipid-based formulations are widely investigated as delivery systems for natural compounds and other lipophilic substances. Phospholipids are amphiphilic molecules, meaning that they contain both water-attracting and fat-attracting regions. Under suitable conditions, phospholipids can organize into bilayer structures known as liposomes – microscopic, vesicle-like structures surrounded by a phospholipid membrane.

The phospholipid bilayer of a liposome has structural similarities to biological cell membranes. This characteristic has made phospholipid-based systems an important area of research in food, pharmaceutical and nutritional formulation science.

Pro-Liposomal technology in a convenient dry capsule: Many liposomal supplements are supplied as liquid formulations. While liquids can be suitable for liposomal delivery systems, they may be less convenient to transport and dose and may have a distinctive taste. Our Pro-Liposomal approach is provided as a dry powder in a capsule, combining phospholipid-based formulation technology with the convenience of a conventional capsule:
