What is Polydatin?

Polydatin (piceid) is a naturally occurring glucoside of resveratrol, found in Polygonum cuspidatum. Structurally, it consists of resveratrol bound to a glucose molecule, a feature that influences its stability, solubility, and metabolic behavior.

Polydatin contains a glucose moiety attached to the resveratrol backbone. This structural feature:

• Increases molecular stability
• Improves water solubility
• Protects the molecule from rapid oxidation
• Allows gradual enzymatic conversion to resveratrol in the body

Due to its structural characteristics and enhanced stability profile, polydatin is increasingly explored in scientific literature as a next-generation alternative to conventional resveratrol formulations.

Biological Context

Polydatin has been studied in the context of cellular redox biology and energy metabolism. Research publications have explored its relation to cellular oxidative balance, NADPH production systems, and enzymatic pathways linked to glucose metabolism.

Particular attention in the scientific literature has been given to the Pentose Phosphate Pathway (PPP) — a metabolic pathway involved in NADPH generation, ribose synthesis, cellular redox regulation.

These findings contribute to the growing scientific interest in polyphenols and their role within cellular metabolic networks.

Why Formulation Matters: Polydatin Pro Liposomal

While polydatin exhibits improved water solubility compared to resveratrol, its polyphenolic structure still results in limited intrinsic solubility, and dispersion in aqueous environments can present formulation challenges.

To address this, Polydatin Pro Liposomal is produced using a phospholipid-based pro-liposomal delivery system (LongLifeLipoTech®). This system incorporates sunflower lecithin-derived phospholipids and vegan chitosan, designed to support improved dispersion characteristics and formulation stability within aqueous environments.

Liposomes are nanoscale vesicular structures composed of phospholipid bilayers, structurally comparable to biological membranes. Due to their amphiphilic nature, phospholipids can self-assemble into colloidal systems suitable for incorporation into complex nutritional formulations.

However, conventional liposomal systems may exhibit surface charge characteristics that influence their physical stability within dispersion systems.

To address these formulation considerations, LongLifeLipoTech® incorporates a proprietary phospholipid matrix combined with vegan chitosan. Chitosan interacts with phospholipid head groups, supporting modulation of surface characteristics and promoting improved colloidal stability within the formulation matrix.

Polydatin Pro Liposomal is formulated using this advanced pro-liposomal system, designed to support optimized dispersion characteristics and structural integrity within aqueous environments.
