Maitake (also called Grifola Frondosa) is one of the most promising medicinal mushrooms, next to mushrooms such as Cordyceps, Reishi, Turkey Tails and Agaricus.
In Japan, Maitake has been enjoyed and used as a medicine and food for thousands of years. Its name means “dancing mushroom” in Japanese, as it caused the delighted discoverers in ancient times to have a dance of joy.
Maitake is an excellent source of compounds such as beta-D-glucan, niacin, pantothenic acid, and lectin (1, 2). These are some of the key elements from this famous medicinal mushroom, responsible for some of its outstanding properties. In addition, it is considered a superfood because the mushroom is rich in vitamins and minerals.
As a result, Maitake is increasingly used as a food supplement, often to contribute to the defense against external agents. At the same time, a large amount of research has been conducted to investigate other possible positive influence of Maitake on the human body.
