MCS FORMULAS ORGANIC ASHWAGANDHA, also called “Indian ginseng”, or Withania somnifera, has been used for centuries in traditional Indian medicine. The main constituents are withanolides such as withaferin A, alkaloids, steroidal lactones, tropine, and cuscohygrine (1).

• Traditionally used to treat impotency and increase sex appeal and fertility (2)*
• Ashwagandha has adaptogenic properties [EFSA ID 3251]; (adaptogenesis is measurable in several ways, e.g. effect of endocrine hormone AND homeostasis.)*
• Adaptogens work to counteract the effects of stress in the body. This is extremely important since stress causes negative physical changes in the body, such as harming the neurological, endocrine, and immune systems, mainly due to cortisol release (such as in Cushing syndroom).*

Therefore, there are indeed good reasons why Ashwagandha is such a prominent herb in Ayurvedic medicine.:

• Clinical pilot studies have observed connections between the use of Ashwagandha and improved sexual function as well as regulation in in serum hormone levels (3)*
• Another clinical trial observed that Ashwagandha supplementation is associated with significant increases in muscle mass and strength (4)*
• In line with all of the above, another clinical study concluded that serum cortisol levels were substantially reduced in Ashwagandha group, relative to the placebo group (5)*
